Upgrading to MPSS - 3.4.3

Step 1 - Preparation

get current info:

  • mpssinfo > mpssinfo-mic.out
  • Make sure root ssh keys are installed & ready BEFORE proceeding (Installer will look for them)

Step 2 - Uninstall current version

Unload current mpss module

  • service mpss unload

Uninstall current mpss version (3.x)

  • cd /path/to/new_mpss/
  • ./uninstall.sh

Uninstall current mpss version (2.x)

  • yum remove --noplugins --disablerepo=* intel-mic*

Make extra sure: rpm -qa | grep -e intel-mic -e mpss

Step 3 - Install new MPSS

Make sure kernel headers and devel packages are available:

  • Install kernel-devel/kernel-headers package for running kernel
  • cd /path/to/new_mpss/src
  • rpmbuild rebuild mpss-modules-*.rpm
  • cp /root/rpmbuild/RPMS/x86_64/*rpm ../modules
  • cd /path/to/new_mpss
  • yum install --no-gpgcheck --noplugins --disablerepo=* *.rpm

For v.3.3 and higher:

  • cd /path/to/new_mpss/modules
  • yum install --nogg `uname -r`*rpm

Load mic driver & init default settings

  • modprobe mic
  • micctrl --initdefaults

Step 4 - configuration

Edit /etc/mpss/*.conf as necessary

  • micctrl --resetconfig

Host config

(put routing info here) - ip forwarding must be enabled on host to provide MICs with NAT access

  • ...

- hosts.allow enabled - firewall allow enabled

  • iptables -L

Must show -A INPUT -i micN -j ACCEPT

?

Step 5 - firmware checks

Check firmware version; DEVICE_ID are integers starting from zero:

  • micflash -getversion -d DEVICE_ID

The flash images live in /usr/share/mpss/flash/*smc; Compare the version listed there with that returned by micflash above. If the version in /usr/... is newer, a falsh is required:

Check device status.

  • micctrl -s

If not "ready" make it ready

  • micctrl -rw

On Mics with C0 hw stepping version do

  • /usr/bin/micflash -update -device [DEVICE_ID | all]

For older steppings,

  • /usr/bin/micflas -update -device all -smcbootloader

Now the host must be rebooted.

Step 6 - Set SSH keys

First make sure ssh keys exist on the host. If not,

  • ssh-keygen -t rsa

When they are ready propagate them to the MIC filesystems

  • micctrl --sshkeys=root --dir=/root/.ssh DEVICE_ID

Step 7 - User configuration

To dump everything and reset to default:

  • micctrl --cleanconfig
  • micctrl --resetdefaults

NFS configuration:

  • micctrl --addnfs=server:/dir/ectory --dir=/mnt/point
  • micctrl --addnfs=cerberus.local:/home/users --dir=/home/users

Group add: micctrl --groupadd=livetau --gid=1003 DEVICE_ID
