Lighthouse is the replacement for the ailing Beacon computer. It provides several critical services:

  • Secondary authoritative DNS server for .nic.uoregon.edu records (slave to ns.nic.uoregon.edu)
  • Secondary LDAP provider (syncrepl receiver) as ldap2.nic.
  • DHCP for "upstairs" (128.223.202.128/25), except for the nuc/wopr cluster network (still owned by Cerberus)

It is physically separated from the VM host Orion that runs the primary DNS/LDAP.

Lighthouse is 100% solid state and is entirely passively cooled, with no moving parts.
