Step by step creating a new user on AIX machines that are not attached to the LDAP servers.
Type:
smitty -Security and Users -Users -Add a User
Fill in the following fields only!!! Other information will break the user script:
User NAME (8 character limit) User ID (Must match userid in LDAP) Primary Group (must match group in LDAP) Group SET (any additional groups)
Press Enter to Create the account
Now you must delete the home directory that it made in the wrong location
rm -rf /home/*username*
Now you must edit the /etc/passwd file to reflect the correct information
vi /etc/passwd
Change the shell and home directory to the correct values:
Possible shells include:
/usr/bin/bash /usr/bin/csh /usr/bin/tcsh
Then as root type passwd *username* to change the password to the users initial password.
Test the account by attempting to login as them. The password should be expired already.
Quick command-line version
mkuser id='UID' pgrp='PRIMARY-GROUP' shell='/usr/bin/bash' USERNAME rm -rf /home/USERNAME chuser home='/home/users/USERNAME/' USERNAME passwd USERNAME
Enabling Batch Queing
To enable the user to use LoadLeveler (Batch Queing) you must add them to the loadl group. Edit /etc/groups by hand
The user must also be added to /etc/hosts.equiv (follow the other examples in the file)
